Love Russia Quiz Night

By paul - Posted on 08 July 2010

Great quiz night yesterday with a definite Russian thread running through the questions. Helen stepped in as quiz master on account of our resident quiz master (Mary) having taken ill. We wish you a speedy recovery, Mary. Helen did very well considering she was seeing the questions for the first time. George collected the answers and kept score at the end of each round. The Revellers are thankful to George for collecting their answer sheets last of all at the end of each round - that gave them a little more time to finalise their answers and probably stopped them coming last. The 'Beautiful South' were conspicuous for the lowest scoring round of the evening (one point). The 'over 21s' team changed their name to the 'over 22s' at the end of round one and by the end of the final round, they had become the 'over 29s' ... and they won. Well done!

May Day Mens Breakfast

By paul - Posted on 01 May 2010

We enjoyed bacon rolls and croissants whilst discussing the national deficit and immigration (which are of course among the major issues for the forthcoming general election on Thursday). Ash then introduced the subject for the meeting which was 'forgiveness' and then Bonus spoke about it from Matthew 18. Ami led us in a few worship songs and Ash gave us his own recent testimony regarding forgiveness. Billy also shared on the subject. It was a simple, relaxed meeting. The fellowship was good and the Lord was honoured. Many thanks to Billy and Ash for their effort and their continued enthusiasm for these events.

Website layout modified to speed it up

By paul - Posted on 27 October 2009

I have just modified the website layout to hopefully improve the site's performance. It has been veeeerrrry slow recently and I hope you'll now have a better experience with it! You'll also notice that I've modified images of the congregation (with a photoshop filter called 'palette knife' - for those who wish to know) so that faces are no longer (easily) recognisable.

Quiz Night raised £300 to help towards Worship Conference

By paul - Posted on 13 September 2009

From Caroline Macintosh: I just wanted to thank everyone who was involved in the Quiz night either by helping out, contributing baking or just taking part. Particularly thank you to Alison for doing the initial publicity and Mary for doing the questions and all the rest of the organising. It was a great night, and for those of you who haven’t heard, we raised £300 towards Eastbourne.

I would like to pass my thanks on too, to all who were involved with/came along to the quiz night.  It was very much a team effort, putting it all together and it was wonderful to experience the support given to the music group by all who supported this fund-raising event.  I felt that it was a real opportunity to experience first hand the multitude of gifts we have but which sometimes we take for granted.  I think the whole experience tied in beautifully with our recent gifting theme and hope that people may have been inspired/have heightened awareness of their gifts as a result of the evening.  It was a perfect example of what can be achieved when we all work together, besides being a really enjoyable night. :-)

Thank Offering raised £555 for Comfort Rwanda

By paul - Posted on 07 September 2009

£555 was collected last Sunday for the Thank Offering for Comfort Rwanda. 18 envelopes were Gift Aided so that will be added and there will no doubt be more envelopes come in from those who were not there, or who forgot. The money will be taken out to Rwanda to help with various projects, when the group from our church go in September. Thank you Mary Darling.

Website update

By admin - Posted on 28 August 2009

Thanks for your patience whilst the website has been offline this last day and a half. Now that the website is beginning to get used I thought it would be good to modify the site slightly so that users posts are more readily apparent. So, you'll notice that in the left-hand column we now have 'recent forum posts' and 'recent comments'. To make room for these, 'notices' have been moved to the BBC-style news ticker at the top of the front page and 'news' follows below that. I've also re-ordered the top-level menus. Hope you like it.

From Helen:

Thank you so much for your prayers which God answered wonderfully! The children were all presented with new shoes by Helen and George on Friday before the team left and were very happy! Helen and George and Ann and Andrew returned safely and have plenty to tell us about their experience, so do not hesjtate to ask them all about it!

Eddie Dobson

By paul - Posted on 05 July 2009

Eddie Dobson went to be with the Lord about 11:20pm on Monday 29 June at the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh. He became a Christian about 3 years ago and was baptised about a year ago. Many of us got to know him and he will be fondly remembered. The funeral was taken by Ian Cathcart at 11am on Tuesday 7th July 2009 at Kirkhill Cemetery and this was followed by a reception at Glencorse Golf Club where Eddie had been a member. A memorial service is to be held on 6th September at 4pm in the South Church.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.
