Consultation paper on gay clergy

By paul - Posted on 10 February 2010

I notice that 'Notes from Kirk Session' in the current Scope (Feb 2010) say 'We have been asked by Presbytery to give our thoughts on a Consultation paper concerning samesex relationships in the ministry'. I've not seen the Consultation paper but it saddens me that it even exists. Can you imagine such a paper 'doing the rounds' in the Church of Scotland say 50 years ago? Has God changed in 50 years? Why are we even discussing it? It seems to me that the devil uses the same old tactics again and again. He still asks 'Has God indeed said?' and we sit around in groups and debate the answer to his question. The fact is that God 'has indeed said' and there is therefore no debate.

i wonder if there were similar debates when people first thought it would be a good idea for women to be ordained or for divorcees to remarry in church?

Fair point. I'm not against debates regarding issues which the bible is unclear about. Clearly some debates have resulted in changes for the good. I just think that the bible is quite clear in regard to this particular issue.

Hello to all

By chas - Posted on 16 October 2009

Hello to all those that seek the lord no matter who you are the lord loves you for you. The Lord said ask in my name I shall give to you your hearts desire not might or maybe but will.

Please if you have the chance have a look at Colin Urquarts you only have to ask can be bought on Amazon as little as a £1.....

My question for this sight why are you using american spellings such as Color ?

How many of the congregation have taken homeless people and put them in a spare room or taken the chance to trust homeless people to act correctly in their homes like the rev suttle in Penicuik with me not so long back in time....

What is the Churches meaning of the Sheep and the Goats.....

I have a interest in these questions as when I said I was homeless and no where to go in Penicuik and that I might have to go to London to find some where was told to come back and see us in the South Church when I get back not that i was looking for help......Just amused me now how the question was brushed aside.

Yes i was born in penicuik and attended the South church in the past.....

I am open to questions and answers on any subject you want ....Prophecy how interesting how do you tell a false phrophet?

Thank you for reading this my thoughts and prayers are with the South Church family.

sorry haven't been on forum for a while. I suspect the american spelling is because the book is american. hopefully the outcome will be Scottish!

I didn't really understand some of your message (possibly because I read it too late at night). Were you homeless when you posted your message? I hope not - unless you want to be.

God bless you

hello to everyone associated with the penicuik south church.i have recently moved into the area and would wish for some information regards services at the church.i have noticed from the website the service times, and the one service that appeals to me is the traditional one,but why is this service only occasionally?from a wee laddie i have read up on the works of s r crockett and knowing he was in service here so many years ago is a delight.any information about his time in penicuik would be most welcome.any other information that you feel i could glean knowledge from please inform me,as i am also a covenanter member.all best wishes.

You might like to consider St Mungo's in Penicuik if you are looking for traditional services. As for S R Crockett I'm afraid I can't help but I do wish you every success in your search for information.

"So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore"

By paul - Posted on 31 August 2009

I thought I'd just draw your attention to a book entitled "So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore" by Wayne Jacobsen and Dave Coleman. It was recommended to me by a friend and I've just spent the last 2 days reading it and intend to read it again. You can read it online at http://www.jakecolsen.com/Jakespreads.pdf.

It is a story about Jake, an Associate Pastor of a large church who meets up with a guy called John who proceeds to challenge much of Jake's outlook on life and faith. The book challenges our practice of weekly attendance at organised/intitutionalised church (oh dear). I recommend it, especially to those who are struggling with attending church services but nevertheless still long for that intimate walk with Jesus that has perhaps seemed so elusive over the years.

colors of ministry

By sheila anderson - Posted on 21 August 2009

Hello

I've not heard the sermons but read the book. I found it helpful and was keen to try out my latent gifts. The book suggests visiting a model church. Is there one nearby? What now?

Just found the forum, can you please give me a call daytime 0131 448 4040 or evening 01721 725194 to discuss your gifts, hopefully you will have been contacted by now.

Thanks

Bill

I was pleased to hear Ian telling us what to do this morning.

I completed the book - hope I don't have to go back and do bits again - but look forward to being told by Rosie, Bill or Sheena what happens next.

I also hope there's more response than there's been to the forum!

I feel like Sheila - what next?  It seems as if we spent ages on GIFTS but now what?!  Or is it in the hands of gift counsellors to get us all going with our gifts?

the fact that only 2 of us have commented on this doesn't inspire me much. Hopefully it's because people haven't started using the forum rather than nobody else being interested in using our gifts!
