I thought I'd just draw your attention to a book entitled "So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore" by Wayne Jacobsen and Dave Coleman. It was recommended to me by a friend and I've just spent the last 2 days reading it and intend to read it again. You can read it online at http://www.jakecolsen.com/Jakespreads.pdf.
It is a story about Jake, an Associate Pastor of a large church who meets up with a guy called John who proceeds to challenge much of Jake's outlook on life and faith. The book challenges our practice of weekly attendance at organised/intitutionalised church (oh dear). I recommend it, especially to those who are struggling with attending church services but nevertheless still long for that intimate walk with Jesus that has perhaps seemed so elusive over the years.
